My Experiments with Truth: An Autobiography: 1 is a collection of his weekly essays that was published in Navjivan from 1925-1929. The first edition of this book was published by Jaico Publishing House in 2008 and is available in paperback format. Written in the form of essays, the book is a detailed account of his beliefs and actions and lets people have a deeper understanding about his chosen path. The author was an ardent follower of God and in the book he has covered the topic in great detail, mentioning time and again that he intended to attain God through his service to mankind. It was with this deep-rooted belief in God that he chose ahimsa, the path of nonviolence. The book is a summation of his essays written in the Yerawada jail and published in the Navjivan journal from 1925-29. The book has sold a million copies worldwide and has been translated into numerous languages all around the world since its release.
