Jeder Spieler schlüpft in die Rolle eines Investors und versucht in mindestens eine der sechs verschiedenen Startup-Firmen zu investieren. Nur der Spieler, der am Ende am meisten Karten eines Unternehmens besitzt, bekommt auch Geld. Deswegen ist es sehr wichtig zu überlegen, welche Karten man öffentlich ausspielt und welche nicht – und auf seine Mitspieler sollte man auch ganz genau achten. Wie auch die anderen Spiele von Oink Games ist die Spieldauer von Startups kurz, es hat im Vergleich aber ein umfangreicheres Gameplay als die anderen Spiele im Oink-Portfolio.Anders als bei der Originalversion des Spiels gibt es jetzt einige interessante Extras wie zum Beispiel den Markt oder den Anti-Monopol-Chip.
